Hello and shalom!

My name is Hadar Galron and I am the Artistic Director of the International Shalom Festival which takes place as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the largest arts festival in the world. I would like to invite you to come and join me during the second week in August (8, 9 and 10) to help us build cultural bridges and celebrate coexistence and peace.

You will find all sorts of exciting information below. Our Festival has four elements:
  • an Interactive Exhibition where you can hear from and chat to people from all over Israel who come from many different backgrounds, as well as enjoy a demonstration of Israeli cooking;
  • the Incubator Theatre from Jerusalem who will be performing their acclaimed hip-hop opera The City in the drama studio;
  • Daily Film screenings will show a selection of thought provoking full length and short films asking you to think about what peace really means;
  • Gala Concert featuring Ethiopian-Israeli singer Meski Shibru and exciting young band from Tel Aviv Jamaya with guest Yemenite singer.

Last year the Scottish Parliament debated a motion that This House believes in Cultural Bridges not Boycotts. The Shalom Festival is a demonstration of that belief and invites the public to join us in showing that Scotland supports the path to peace and rejects absolutely those who advocate hate and destruction. We are celebrating Israel's rich cultural diversity and showing that peaceful coexistence is already the chosen reality for many of her people. Please join us in supporting them to strengthen their message of shalom, and thereby give peace a chance!
